Our Story

Founded in 2008

The Susquehanna Stage Co., Inc. was born by a group of like-minded individuals hoping for a quality, affordable theatre experience.

Our Future

Since its founding, the “SSC” has grown to and beyond capacity of it’s currently rented home. In 2016, the organization purchased the Historic Marietta Theater from the Marietta Restoration Association with the intention of renovating and restoring the theater into the new home of the Susquehanna Stage Co. It is planned that the new, state-of-the-art facility will show old-time and second-release cinema, house stage productions, and serve as a community rental for group and corporate events.

History of the Marietta Theater

It is our mission to restore the Marietta theatre to the thriving and energetic venue that it was when it opened in 1914.

We are keeping the classic style of the front facade of the building and adding some touches that will help us to promote the theatre through digital signage and architectural lighting. We are developing plans for a front courtyard and gathering space so that patrons can gather outside comfortably.

Moving inside, the lobby will be renovated to a classic feel with a new and upgraded snack bar so that small events and gatherings can take place in “The Lobby”.

In the theatre space, the goal is to preserve the styling of the walls and seating area of a mid-nineteenth theatre but allow for hidden, modern technology that will be overhead and behind the proscenium. Modern video projection will allow us sto show classic movies on the big screen clearer and more vivid than before. The stage house will be fully renovated to serve as a modern and save performance area. Our goal is to provide the best stage space in the area for performers, technicians, and designers.

This restoration and renovation are important to the town of Marietta and to Central PA because it will bring a great historic community venue back to life and help to create new and long lasting memories in those that become involved and attend just as “Acri’s Theatre” once did. The Marietta Theatre created so many memories for people in the 1900s. We want to continue to create memories for the community in the 2000s. It is our mission to restore the Marietta Theatre to the thriving and energetic venue that is was when it opened in 1914.
